VLC beta on Windows Store
It was first announced, after a fair bit of the delay, the popular VLC player application developer finally modern UI 'specially designed for the Windows Store is a new beta release. This is mostly the same, but we know that VLC is a fresh new design. This means that it will still play pretty much everything you throw at it. This is, however, a beta and the developers have not been cagey in describing all the issues in the latest version. Lack of hardware acceleration, subtitle and audio issues, lack of playlist and stream stability issues in general, including support and a pretty long list, until now. Another thing to note is that VLC does not support the ARM as the beta now, so you just based on x86/x64 Windows 8 and 8.1 devices can use it. ARM support is coming in the future.
